Whisky Magazine Presents World Whiskies Awards
Whisky Magazine handed out its annual World Whiskies Awards March 30 in London, and there were some surprises among the winners.
M&H Elements Sherry cask from Israel’s Milk and Honey Distillery won the World’s Best Single Malt whisky out of a field of 30 different regional winners. Canada took home the title for Best Single Pot Still whisky, traditionally a centerpiece of the Irish Whiskey industry. Kildara Single Pot Still from Macaloney’s Island Distillery was selected over the Redbreast 15-year-old, which was named the best Irish Single Pot Still whiskey.
The Representative Bourbon from Proof and Wood Ventures was named the World’s Best Bourbon, while Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Batch C922 was selected as the World’s Best Small Batch Bourbon.
The magazine also inducted three new members into its Hall of Fame…Bernard Walsh of Ireland’s Walsh Whiskey, Sukhinder Singh of the Whisky Exchange and Elixir Distillers, and whisky author Hans Offringa.
The Icons of Whisky global winners were also announced during the awards ceremony. Heaven Hill won distiller of the year honors, while Gregg Glass of Whyte and Mackay was named master distiller/blender of the year, and the new Johnnie Walker Princes Street was named visitor attraction of the year.
