Writers' Tears Double Oak. Image courtesy Walsh Whiskey Company. This Irish Whiskey takes a blend of single malt and single pot still whiskeys and uses both American Oak and French Oak Cognac casks, and is a successor to the Writers’ Tears Cognac Cask released in 2018. The nose is warm with subtle oakiness and touches of toasted bread, black tea with honey, subtle spices, and a hint of butterscotch. The taste is spicy with cinnamon red-hot candies, vanilla cream, and touches of dark fruits and cocoa that come out as the spiciness starts to fade away. Adding a few drops of water tames the spiciness just a bit. The finish is long with subtle spices and a hint of oak. Very nice. (June, 2019)
