WhistlePig 12 Old World Rye. Image courtesy WhistlePig Farm. The whiskey comes from Canada originally, and is matured for 12 years in ex-Bourbon barrels before being finished in a combination of Port, Sauternes, and Madeira wine casks. The nose has notes of fresh fruits, baking spices, hints of leather and tobacco, and a touch of brown sugar. The taste starts off with cherry cola sweetness complemented by clove, cinnamon, and a hint of ginger along with tree fruits, caramel, and brown sugar underneath. The finish is long and fruity with cherries and hints of peaches and apples balanced nicely by lingering spices. (December, 2020)
