Caperdonich Distillery in Rothes was demolished a decade ago. Its whiskies can still be found from time to time, such as this single cask bottling from Decadent Drinks and the Whisky Sponge, Angus MacRaild. It’s a 25-year-old refill Sherry hogshead bottled in 2020, and the nose has touches of Christmas cake, fresh berries, a gentle oakiness, dried apples, and hints of dried flowers and hazelnut. The taste has a good balance of fruitiness and peppery notes with touches of fresh berries, red apples, dried flowers, and a hint of hazelnut. The finish is long, well-balanced, and gentle. Excellent! (May, 2021)
