Westland Distillery's Sport Dram. Image courtesy Westland Distillery. This is Westland Distillery’s 2018 April (Fool’s) limited-edition release, and while it may not be the best way to quench an athlete’s thirst, the whisky itself is no joke. The nose is light and clean with a touch of oak tannins, barley sugar, honey, muted spices, and a hint of brown sugar. The taste has a slight tartness at first with a good spicy buildup of clove and cinnamon balanced by honey, vanilla, and barley sugar underneath. The finish fades away gently with lingering spices and a nice balance of honey and brown sugar underneath. One other note: while there are three different labels (“Blue Buzz,” Red Slap,” and “Green Grip), the whiskey is the same for all three. Excellent! (March, 2018)
