Producing WhiskyCast has given me the opportunity to taste some really amazing whiskies, and I’m pleased to share my tasting notes with you here. You can search my entire database of tasting notes from this page, and I hope you’ll find it useful.
This 14-year-old whiskey originated at Bushmills and was originally matured in a combination of ex-Bourbon and Oloroso Sherry casks, then finished in a combination of those same casks along with Port and Madeira wine casks. The result is a complex, yet well-balanced whiskey.
The nose has notes of apples, peaches, pears, apricots, along with a slight oakiness. Notes of vanilla, honey, and butterscotch add balance. The taste is also well-balanced with hints of anise, banana, coconut, apples, and dried peaches. The finish is dry, but not astringent with hints of lemon and cigar smoke on the aromatic finish. Overall, excellent balance and complexity. (September, 2015)
