Thomson Manuka Smoke Single Malt. Image courtesy Thomson Whisky.Manuka wood is unique to New Zealand, and several of the country’s distillers are experimenting with malt smoked with Manuka. This may be one of the best so far. The nose has notes of honey, butterscotch, and a nice woodiness with a gentle touch of smoke. The taste is peppery and sweet with honey, white pepper, butterscotch, toasted caramel, and a hint of anise. The finish is long and well-balanced with a subtle spiciness, hints of smoke and lots of sweetness. (March, 2020)
