The Gentleman Whiskey. Photo ©2015 by Mark Gillespie. You’ll probably never find a bottle of this whiskey from Kentucky’s Bourbon County, since the distillery was forced to change its name from The Gentleman Distillery to Hartfield and Company shortly after it was released in 2015 to avoid a trademark infringement lawsuit from another distillery. It uses the same corn, rye, and malted barley mashbill as Hartfield’s Bourbon, but is not matured for as long.

The nose has notes of toasted oak, campfire smoke, roasted corn, cocoa, and honey. The taste has a sharp black pepper bite along with caramel cola, hints of vanilla, charred oak, and burnt popcorn. The finish is dry and woody with a touch of charred oak. It’s young, but shows signs of promise for the distillery’s future. (October, 2015)
