Shene Estate Distillery Mackey Single Malt. Image courtesy Shene Estate Distillery. This Australian single malt from the Shene Estate Distillery in Tasmania is matured in a cask previously used for Australia’s Port-inspired Tawny wine, and it also has an Irish influence in that Shene triple-distills its whiskies. The nose has notes of raspberry jam, raisin, plum, and toasted coconut. The taste is fruity with good spiciness and balance between fresh berries, dark fruits,  toasted coconut, crystallized ginger, and a hint of cardamom. A few drops of water amps up the flavors in both spiciness and berries on the palate while adding smoothness on the mouthfeel. The finish is long and gentle with a subtle fruitiness and a kiss of spices. Very nice! (August, 2019)
