Producing WhiskyCast has given me the opportunity to taste some really amazing whiskies, and I’m pleased to share my tasting notes with you here. You can search my entire database of tasting notes from this page, and I hope you’ll find it useful.
This straight rye whiskey from Sugarlands Distilling in Gatlinburg, Tennessee is made with a mashbill of 51% rye, 45% corn, and 4% malted barley, then matured for two years and two months before being bottled at cask strength.
The nose has good fruity notes with hints of apples, citrus fruits, soft spices, vanilla, and oak. The taste is thick and spicy with clove, black pepper, and chili powder balanced nicely by honey, apple pie, and vanilla notes underneath. The finish is long, spicy, and slightly dry with a touch of oak. Tastes much older than it is, and can’t wait to see what future batches taste like with more time in the barrel! (April, 2018)
