Old Pulteney 1989 Vintage. Image courtesy Old Pulteney. This whisky won “World’s Best Single Malt” honors in Whisky Magazine’s 2016 World Whiskies Awards, and comes from one of Scotland’s northern-most distilleries in the coastal town of Wick.

The nose has notes of red apples, oak, hints of smoked salmon and brine, honey, brown sugar, coconut, lemon zest, and dark chocolate. The taste is thick and oily with lemon pepper, a hint of brine, cardamom, honey, coconut, and vanilla. The finish has a lingering tartness and spices, along with coconut, vanilla, and a touch of oak.
