Method and Madness Single Pot Still Hungarian Oak Finish
This Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey from Midleton Distillery is the first ever to be finished in Hungarian Oak casks (Quercus Petraea), with 11 months of time in those barrels after being originally matured in a combination of first-fill and refill American Oak casks.
The nose has notes of tree fruits, soft oak, and mild spices, along with campfire ashes, a slightly earthy hint of garden soil, and a meaty touch of roast beef juices. That meatiness comes through on the palate along with spicy notes of clove and cardamom, sawdust, and honey. Water brings out sweeter notes of butterscotch and toffee. The finish is dry and woody with touches of sandalwood, potpourri, and incense. Excellent! (May, 2018)
