Hockey Hall of Famer Paul Coffey helped create this whisky with Dr. Don Livermore of J.P. Wiser’s for the NHL Alumni Series, and no, it was not distilled in a Coffey Still. Instead, it comes from four different cask types: ex-Bourbon, ex-Speyside Scotch, ex-Canadian Whisky, and Virgin Oak, and as with many of the Alumni Series whiskies, there’s an “Easter Egg” hidden in the details. In this case, the 48% ABV bottling strength refers to Coffey’s 48 goals in the 1985-86 season, which remains the scoring record for defensemen to this day.

The whisky has notes of honey, caramel, butterscotch, and dried fruits on the nose. The taste starts off sweet with caramel and honey notes followed by a good spicy buildup of allspice, white pepper, and a hint of clove. The finish is long, as the spices cling nicely with a hint of honey in the background. Excellent! (June, 2021)
