J.P. Wiser's Double Still Rye Whisky. Image courtesy Corby Distillers. This Canadian whisky is blended from ryes distilled in pot stills and column stills at the Hiram Walker Distillery in Windsor, Ontario. The nose is smooth with subtle spicy notes of clove and black pepper, along with walnut, brown sugar, and a hint of maple sweetness. The taste has a good spicy buildup of cinnamon, black pepper, and clove that eventually fades to reveal honey, vanilla, and brown sugar notes. The finish is nice and long with lingering spices. A classic Canadian rye! (November, 2015)
