Producing WhiskyCast has given me the opportunity to taste some really amazing whiskies, and I’m pleased to share my tasting notes with you here. You can search my entire database of tasting notes from this page, and I hope you’ll find it useful.
This Gordon & MacPhail bottling comes from an undisclosed distillery on the Isle of Skye (you don’t have to work too hard to figure this one out), and was distilled in 1986, matured in first-fill Sherry butts for 21 years and bottled in 2007.
The nose has good driftwood smoke, black cherries, fig cookies, and a nice maltiness with touches of briny wet sand, honey, oak, and a subtle touch of dried fruits. The taste is smoky and peaty with cherry pie, caramel candy, honey, figs, dates, brown sugar, and a touch of sultanas. The finish has a long, lingering smokiness with honey and a subtle touch of dried fruits. Excellent! (February, 2015)
