Gordon & MacPhail's Private Collection Ultra 1952 Glenlivet. Photo ©2014 by Mark Gillespie. One of the four Private Collection Ultra releases in late 2014 to mark the transition between the third and fourth generations of Urquhart family members at Gordon & MacPhail. This 62-year-old first-fill ex-Sherry butt was selected by retired Managing Director Ian Urquhart, his son Neil (the company’s current Director of Logistics and Facilities), and daughter Jenny Houldsworth, who serves as a non-executive director on the G&M board. Only 69 bottles were produced.

The nose is vibrant, light, and fruity with notes of Christmas cake, pears, peaches, berries, dark chocolate, and just a hint of oak. The taste has notes of orange peel, dark chocolate, molasses, raisins, and a hint of straw with excellent balance. The finish is fruity, vibrant, and amazingly long, and just a few drops of water will increase the fruity tartness.

An amazing whisky, and even better than the 70-year-old Glenlivet single cask Gordon & MacPhail released in 2011! (October, 2014)
