Glen Moray Mastery. Image courtesy Glen Moray/La Martiniquaise.Glen Moray’s Graham Coull looked to his predecessors for inspiration in creating this unique single malt. He blended ex-Bourbon casks from the 1970’s with ex-Sherry casks from the 1990’s, Madeira casks filled in the 1990’s and 2000’s, and Port casks from the 1980’s. The resulting whisky has a nice maltiness on the nose with notes of shortbread cookies, apricots, peaches, and hints of vanilla and toffee in the background. The taste is spicy and peppery with cinnamon, clove, allspice, and a hint of ginger, along with notes of dried apricots, bananas, and peaches that come out as the spices fade. The finish is long with lingering spices and an excellent overall balance. Wow! (September, 2017)
