Producing WhiskyCast has given me the opportunity to taste some really amazing whiskies, and I’m pleased to share my tasting notes with you here. You can search my entire database of tasting notes from this page, and I hope you’ll find it useful.
Sean and Tia Edwards are building one of the few Black-owned distilleries in Kentucky in the heart of Lexington, and have been working with the Hartsfield & Co. Distillery to create this first release of Fresh Bourbon using their specific four-grain mashbill of corn, honey malt, malted wheat, and rye. It comes from barrels between four and six months old, and while the whiskey in this first release is still quite young, it’s showing a lot of promise for the future.
The nose has notes of roasted corn, fresh fruits, honeycomb, and a hint of charred oak. The taste has touches of spice, cherry cola, vanilla, oak tannins, peaches, and a touch of spearmint. The finish is medium-length with hints of cocoa, peaches, cherry cola, spearmint, and vanilla. It’s easily drinkable now, but I can’t wait to taste it as it gets older. (October, 2020)
