Producing WhiskyCast has given me the opportunity to taste some really amazing whiskies, and I’m pleased to share my tasting notes with you here. You can search my entire database of tasting notes from this page, and I hope you’ll find it useful.
This 15-year-old whisky from Scotland’s smallest distillery was released in 2014, and inspired by a new movie about the Scottish legend of the “Fairy Flag” of Dunvegan Castle. It was matured for 8 years in ex-Bourbon casks, then transferred to Oloroso Sherry casks for another 7 years of maturation.
The nose is soft and creamy with notes of vanilla, caramel, dried fruits, raisins, and cooked plums. The taste is dry and fruity with a good spiciness that comes alive with ginger, nutmeg, cooked banana, coconut, red grapes, and a touch of raisins. The finish is long, tart, and slightly dry. Excellent! (October, 2014)
