Producing WhiskyCast has given me the opportunity to taste some really amazing whiskies, and I’m pleased to share my tasting notes with you here. You can search my entire database of tasting notes from this page, and I hope you’ll find it useful.
When you’ve already bottled the “Peat Monster,” what do you do for a name when an even peatier whisky comes along? That’s the dilemma John Glaser and the Compass Box team had with this whisky, which includes some Ardbeg casks that Compass Box acquired but ruled out using for the Peat Monster. They settled on “No Name” – but this whisky is anything but anonymous.
The nose has notes of campfire smoke, creosote, and iodine along with dried leaves, heather, and a hint of seaweed. The taste has great peatiness and smoke balanced well by grilled pineapple, black cherries, soft spices, and a touch of oak. Those same notes last through the long, smoky finish. Excellent!
