This is the second expression in Bruichladdich’s 2018 relaunch of its Port Charlotte heavily peated single malt. It was distilled in 2011 from barley grown on Islay in 2010, and matured in a combination of 75% first-fill ex-Bourbon barrels and 25% Syrah wine casks.
The nose has a good smokiness without being medicinal, along with muted spices, heather, honey, and grilled fruits. The taste is spicy with touches of licorice, black pepper, allspice, and chili powder, along with hints of anise, honey, and dried fruits in the background. The finish is long and spicy with hints of licorice, anise, and burnt caramel. (June, 2018)
