Producing WhiskyCast has given me the opportunity to taste some really amazing whiskies, and I’m pleased to share my tasting notes with you here. You can search my entire database of tasting notes from this page, and I hope you’ll find it useful.
This 10-year-old Bowmore is matured in ex-Sherry casks exclusively. It gets its name from the Islay legend that the town of Bowmore’s Round Church was designed so that the Devil could never hide in a corner, and once escaped into Bowmore Distillery’s Vaults No. 1 to hide after Ileachs chased him out of the church.
The nose is certainly tempting enough, with notes of ginger, dried fruits, pipe tobacco, maple syrup, plums, figs, and leather. The taste has notes of orange peel, peaches, toffee, dark chocolate, pipe tobacco, and a hint of honey. The finish is long, rich, and smooth with fading spices. (January, 2014)
