Producing WhiskyCast has given me the opportunity to taste some really amazing whiskies, and I’m pleased to share my tasting notes with you here. You can search my entire database of tasting notes from this page, and I hope you’ll find it useful.
This 22-year-old Bourbon comes from casks filled at two Kentucky distilleries (while Diageo would not name the distilleries, its news release listed addresses corresponding to Bernheim in Louisville and Buffalo Trace in Frankfort) and matured at the Stitzel-Weller complex on Louisville’s west side in Shively.
The nose has notes of toasted marshmallow, caramel, burnt vanilla, honey, hints of ginger and allspice, and a healthy amount of charred oak. The taste is spicy and woody with cinnamon, black pepper, and toasted oak dominating the palate supported by honey, vanilla, cocoa beans, caramel, and toasted marshmallow. The finish is long, oaky, spicy, and has a slight tartness to it. The oakiness is to be expected from a Bourbon this old, and it’s not for everyone. (May, 2015)
