This is a collaboration between Blackened Whiskey’s Rob Dietrich and Drew Kulsveen at Kentucky’s Willett Distillery, and marks the first release in Blackened’s Masters of Whiskey Series. They took Willett Rye whiskey finished in Madeira wine casks and used Blackened’s proprietary “Black Noise” sonic enhancement process in which Metallica’s music vibrates the casks. The nose has touches of dry rub barbecue spices, apricots, peaches, toasted oak, and nutty hints of pecans and almonds. The taste has an intense spiciness (think “turned up to 11”), while peach nectar gives it a thick mouthfeel along with touches of toasted oak and chocolate-covered nuts. The finish is long, dry, and spicy with black cherries and dark chocolate. Wow! (August, 2021)
