BenRiach Authenticus 30 Years Old. Image courtesy The BenRiach Distillery Company. This limited-edition release is Rachel Barrie’s first take on the existing BenRiach range since taking over for Billy Walker as master blender in mid-2017. The heavily-peated Authenticus has a nose full of charred oak and campfire smoke, along with heather, honey, and vanilla. The taste starts off with touches of plums and raisins before the peaty smokiness comes alive, but the peat never overpowers the sweeter notes including toffee and blackberry jam in the background. The finish has a long, lingering smokiness with hints of spices and dried fruits. Overall, excellent balance and complexity! (October, 2017)
