Balcones Brimstone Whiskey. Image courtesy Balcones Distilling. This is an unusual whiskey smoked with Texas scrub oak and distilled from roasted blue corn. The nose has notes of campfire and mesquite smoke, a hint of oak tannins, honey, and vanilla. The taste is smoky with a touch of grilled jalapeño peppers, charred oak, and a hint of black pepper that fades slowly to reveal honey and vanilla notes with a touch of tree fruits. The finish is long and spicy with hints of tree fruits and a subtle touch of mint. (October, 2020)
