Ardbeg Auriverdes. Photo ©2014 by Mark Gillespie.Ardbeg’s 2014 limited edition expression uses toasted (instead of charred) barrel heads to soften some of the flavors, while still remaining a classic Ardbeg.

The nose has notes of dark chocolate and espresso that balance well with the traditional Ardbeg peatiness, hints of tar and creosote, graham crackers, vanilla cake frosting, and black cherries. The taste has a good peatiness with cinnamon, honey, dark chocolate, espresso, vanilla, and hints of cherry throat lozenges. The finish is long and peaty with a touch of honey sweetness balanced by baking chocolate and a lingering peatiness. (May, 2014)
