Beam Enters American Single Malt Category with Clermont Steep

One of America’s largest distillers has entered the growing American Single Malt whiskey category. The James B. Beam Distilling Company, known to whisky lovers as Jim Beam, has unveiled Clermont Steep, a 5-year-old single malt created by Freddie Noe.

The whiskey was distilled at Jim Beam’s flagship distillery in Clermont, Kentucky using the Beam family’s jug yeast that is used in all of Jim Beam’s whiskies, then distilled on a column still before maturation in barrels that were toasted, followed by a quick charring.

“As a new venture, crafting Clermont Steep has been one of the toughest challenges I have ever faced in the distillery, and I am incredibly proud of where we’ve landed,” Noe said in a news release. The eighth-generation master distiller described his new whisky as “smooth, sweet, and incredibly balanced.”

Clermont Steep will carry a recommended retail price of $59.99 when it goes on sale in June. The whisky will be available in select U.S. states and through ReserveBar.com.
