Black Gate Distillery is located northwest of Sydney in New South Wales, and is run by the husband-and-wife distilling team of Brian and Genise Hollingworth. This single cask bottling is a 3-year-old single malt, and the nose is fruity with touches of black cherries, plums, molasses, and a hint of Christmas cake. The taste is thick and spicy with fruity notes of plums, black cherries, and apricots balanced nicely by baking spices, molasses, and a hint of oak tannins. Adding a few drops of water opens up floral notes on the palate. The finish is long with a nice balance of dark fruits and gently fading spices. (April, 2021)
