Producing WhiskyCast has given me the opportunity to taste some really amazing whiskies, and I’m pleased to share my tasting notes with you here. You can search my entire database of tasting notes from this page, and I hope you’ll find it useful.
This single malt was one of Bruichladdich’s 2021 Fèis Ile bottlings and also celebrates the 20th anniversary of the distillery’s revival in 2001. It truly reflects the diversity of Bruichladdich’s whiskies over the past 20 years with a combination of 13 different cask types filled over 12 different years, and while that could have led to a train wreck of colliding flavor combinations, Adam Hannett and his colleagues have pulled it off here.
The nose is malty and complex with touches of barley sugar, red apples, red grapes, cocoa, toffee, heather, and a hint of spearmint in the background. The taste is well-balanced with gentle spicy notes of black pepper, clove, and ginger root complemented by touches of honey, brown sugar, blackberry jam, and oak that add complexity along with a slightly astringent mouthfeel. The finish is long with a gentle oakiness, lingering spices, and hints of spearmint and brown sugar. Excellent! (August, 2021)
