This is Release 1.2 from the Jim McEwan Signature Collection of his personal casks from Bruichladdich, and the peated single malt was matured for 13 years in a first-fill Bordeaux red wine cask. The nose has notes of dried flowers, burnt leaves, red grapes, oak tannins, and sea air. The taste is strong, bold, and powerful with an explosion of peat smoke, red grapes, plums, figs, a touch of honey, and baking spices. This is one dram where adding water is highly recommended — it tempers the explosion of flavor just long enough to allow you to savor it. The finish is long and dry with a nice smokiness and hints of spices, figs, and plums. Excellent! (March, 2021)
