Shibui 18 Single Grain Japanese Whisky. Image courtesy Shibui Whisky/IND Beverages. This whisky was distilled from rice at Okinawa’s Kumesin Distillery and matured in refill Fino and Manzanilla Sherry casks. The nose is earthy and beefy with a touch of broth, mushrooms, a subtle touch of cardamom, and a nice oakiness. The taste has a good balance of baking spices, grapefruit, kiwi fruit, and a touch of orange peel, with hints of linseed oil, lemon furniture polish, oiled leather, and toasted marshmallow. The finish is long with lingering spices, dried fruits, and a touch of oak. Wow! (June, 2021)
