Deanston 40 Year Old Scotch Whisky. Image courtesy Deanston/Distell.This is Deanston’s oldest release on record, and spent 30 years in hogshead casks with the final ten years in first-fill ex-Oloroso Sherry casks. The nose has notes of raisins, treacle, Manuka honey, and butterscotch for an aroma that is very sweet and fruity – but also has a dark character underneath. The taste is fruity, vibrant, and luscious with a slightly waxy character and notes of dark fruits, treacle, honey, almond oil, and hints of white pepper and ginger root. The finish is long and fruity with subtle hints of honey, oak, leather, and pipe tobacco. Outstanding! (January, 2020)
