Bruichladdich Octomore 10.1. Image courtesy Bruichladdich. The .1 bottling in each Octomore series is the basic single malt, five years old, and matured in first-fill ex-Bourbon casks. 10.1 is peated to 107 parts per million of phenols and distilled from Scottish Concerto barley. The nose has a nice malty sweetness of barley sugar along with honey, vanilla, hints of brine and driftwood smoke, heather, and toasted caramel. The taste is smoky, pungent, and slightly phenolic with notes of barbecued beef, charred oak, subtle spices, a slight brininess, and a hint of honey in the background. The finish is long and gentle with a subtle smokiness and a kiss of spice. (October, 2019)
