Aberfeldy 24 Exceptional Cask Series. Image courtesy Aberfeldy/John Dewar & Sons. This single cask bottling spent 24 years in an Oloroso Sherry butt, and the nose is smooth, relaxing, and subtle with notes of dried fruits, toffee, figs, a touch of honey, and a hint of oak tannins for a slightly savory character. The taste belies the nose, though…it’s beefy and assertive with great spicy notes of clove, cardamom, white pepper, and a hint of ginger root complemented nicely by a citrusy tartness with touches of orange peel, pineapple, and toasted coconut. Water brings out the fruitiness even more on the palate, while the finish has lingering spices, citrusy tartness, and a hint of toasted coconut. Wow! (October, 2019)
