This is the third and final release in Johnnie Walker’s Ghost & Rare Series using whiskies from long-closed “ghost” distilleries, and this blend features malt from Glenury Royal. The Highland distillery closed for good in 1985, and was one of only three distilleries in Scotland to have the “Royal” designation bestowed by Britain’s royal family.
The nose is rich and fruity with apples, peaches, and apricot notes balanced nicely by hints of toffee, butterscotch, and honey. The taste is thick and nectar-like with dried fruits, a nice spicy background, and touches of honey, toffee, and vanilla. The finish is long, delicate, and fruity with hints of apples and apricots, peach cobbler, brown sugar, and honey. Excellent! (October, 2019)
