Producing WhiskyCast has given me the opportunity to taste some really amazing whiskies, and I’m pleased to share my tasting notes with you here. You can search my entire database of tasting notes from this page, and I hope you’ll find it useful.
The character in the 2019 release of Garryana is dominated by Garry Oak, the unique subspecies of Oak native to the Pacific Northwest. However, Westland’s Matt Hoffman also used some of his ex-Sherry casks in this year’s edition along with ex-Bourbon and Rye casks. The nose has a good balance of tree fruits, figs, sandalwood, honey, and a hint of pine needles. The taste has wood, spices, and fruitiness in abundance, with touches of figs, plums, grilled peaches, sandalwood, and hints of mint, white pepper, and allspice along with a nice oakiness. The finish has long-lasting spices and a good underlying fruity sweetness. (September, 2019)
