Port Ellen 35 Years Old (2014 Release). Image courtesy Diageo. This was the 2014 release of Port Ellen in Diageo’s annual Special Releases series. The nose has notes of grilled fruits, campfire smoke, lemon zest, honey, vanilla, and a hint of dark chocolate. The taste is peppery and intense with black pepper and a hint of cinnamon at first. The spices fade slowly to reveal hints of smoke, grilled fruits, dark chocolate, and honey. Adding water amps up the spices while downplaying the softer notes, so be careful. The finish is amazingly long with lingering spices. Excellent! (June, 2019)
