Stranahan's Snowflake 2018 Edition. Image courtesy Stranahan's/Proximo Spirits. This year’s Snowflake is named “Mount Elbert” after one of Colorado’s tallest peaks in the Rocky Mountains. Master Distiller Rob Dietrich used nine different types of casks to create it, including several different types of wine casks, a Rum cask, and even a former Stranahan’s cask that had been used by a local brewery to age its Chocolate Stout. The nose is aromatic and complex with dark fruits, hints of molasses and licorice, black cherries, and a touch of brandy. The taste is extremely fruity but still well-balanced with plums, raisins, red apples, a hint of peach pie, and gentle spices. The long finish has notes of dried fruits, raisins, soft spices, and a hint of licorice. Excellent! (December, 2o18)
