This is Bruichladdich head distiller Adam Hannett’s second edition of Black Art, the mysterious and mystical single malt in which only he knows the exact combination of casks that went into the final vatting. We do know that all of the casks in this edition were originally distilled in 1990 and matured for at least 26 years.
The nose is complex with subtle fruity notes of apricots and peaches, along with muted spices, toasted vanilla, and butterscotch. The taste is thick, chewy, and fruity at first, followed by a burst of peppery spice that lasts and lasts while subtle hints of dried fruits, honey, vanilla, and heather lurk in the background. The finish is long, complex, and ever-changing with touches of fruit and spice. Wow! (June, 2018)
