Producing WhiskyCast has given me the opportunity to taste some really amazing whiskies, and I’m pleased to share my tasting notes with you here. You can search my entire database of tasting notes from this page, and I hope you’ll find it useful.
This whiskey is a followup to the 2013 Masters Collection release of a straight malt whiskey, but differs in that this edition is made with a mashbill of 51% malted barley along with corn and rye while the 2013 was a 100% malted barley whiskey.
The nose is very sweet and gentle with notes of barley sugar, pipe tobacco, caramel candy, cocoa, brown sugar, and a hint of almonds. The taste has a good balance of sweetness and spices, much like a gourmet chocolate bar with ground chili peppers in it. There are hints of dried fruits, nuts, and oak as well, while the finish has subtle touches of chocolate, almonds, and a hint of barley sugar. Very nice. (June, 2018)
