Producing WhiskyCast has given me the opportunity to taste some really amazing whiskies, and I’m pleased to share my tasting notes with you here. You can search my entire database of tasting notes from this page, and I hope you’ll find it useful.
This whiskey comes from MGP’s distillery in Lawrenceburg, Indiana – but there’s no question about the origin. MGP Ingredients acquired the George Remus Bourbon brand from its Cincinnati-based founders, who had been purchasing their whiskey from the distillery just across the state line, and this is the first mainstream whiskey release for MGP using its own whiskey.
The nose is oaky with vanilla, a touch of black pepper, dark chocolate, pipe tobacco, and leather notes. The taste has good spices with black pepper and cinnamon balanced by softer notes of caramel, anise, vanilla, and a hint of licorice. The finish is long with a good balance of spices and sweetness.
