Producing WhiskyCast has given me the opportunity to taste some really amazing whiskies, and I’m pleased to share my tasting notes with you here. You can search my entire database of tasting notes from this page, and I hope you’ll find it useful.
This single malt is part of Chapter 3 of The Balvenie’s DCS Compendium, the five-year series of annual releases honoring longtime Malt Master David Stewart, and was matured for 35 years in a refill American Oak hogshead cask (#7824).
The nose has notes of vanilla, fudge, honey, and caramel, with concentrated spicy notes of clove, white pepper, and black pepper. The focused spices come alive on the palate with clove, cinnamon, and white pepper, along with orange peel, dried flowers, and a touch of herbs that creates a great balance. The finish is very long and consistent with the palate, fading away ever so gently. Wow! (November, 2017)
