Westland Peat Week 2017 Commemorative Bottles. Image courtesy Westland Distillery. You might find this whiskey with one of three different labels, since Seattle’s Westland Distillery decided to produce it with three different sideshow characters: Phenostrus, the Demon of the Bog, Mistress Miasma, Vixen of Vapor, and Spinther, the Man of Fire. It’s distilled from peated Scottish barley, and the nose has notes of charred oak, campfire smoke, honey, vanilla, a hint of pipe tobacco, and a slight nuttiness. The taste has a great smokiness with charred oak, eventually fading to reveal blackberry preserves, chocolate fudge, and a hint of honey. The finish is long and slightly dry with a subtle hint of allspice. Very nice. (September, 2017)
