High West Yippee Ki-Yay 2017 Release. Image courtesy High West.Yippee Ki-Yay takes several rye whiskies ranging from 2 to 16 years old and blends them together, then finishes them off in French Oak barrels first used for Vermouth and Syrah wine. If you’re familiar with High West’s Double Rye, it’s essentially the same blend with the addition of the cask finishes.

The nose has a good balance of cinnamon, dried flowers, clove, anise, and blackberries. The taste starts off with a spicy cinnamon note, while touches of orange peel and berry cobbler develop in the background and are balanced by thyme, vanilla, and honey. The finish is long, sweet, and vibrant with lingering spices underneath honey and berry cobbler notes. Excellent and complex. (July, 2017)
