One of the two debut whiskies in Campari America’s Whiskey Barons Collection of whiskies created to revive legendary pre-Prohibition Bourbons, and while it was distilled and bottled at Campari’s Wild Turkey Distillery, it is not considered a Wild Turkey whiskey. However, Old Ripy’s heritage comes from the Ripy family, which once owned the original Wild Turkey Distillery along the Kentucky River and made Old Ripy before and after Prohibition up until 1950. Members of the Ripy family helped consult on the development of this Bourbon, which combines 8-year-old Straight Bourbon with younger and older whiskies.

The nose is dry with subtle hints of oak, caramel, ginger root, and a hint of maple. The taste is mouth-puckeringly dry and sweet with honey and apple notes at first, then a spicy dry rub barbecue spiciness kicks in along with a touch of sawdust. The finish is dusty and dry with a lingering spiciness. (March, 2017)
