High West's A Midwinter Night's Dram Batch #4. Image courtesy High West Distillery. This is the 2016 release of A Midwinter Night’s Dram from High West, and is a blend of straight Rye whiskies from different distilleries finished in a combination of French Oak and Port wine casks. The nose is warm and spicy with notes of mulled wine or cider, clove, honey, and brown sugar. The taste has a thick, oily mouthfeel that coats the tongue nicely with notes of Christmas cake, baked oranges, clove, nutmeg, and touches of figs and dates. The finish is dry and fruity with dried apricots, figs, dates, and a subtle spiciness. Excellent! (December, 2016)
