Old Potrero Single Malt Straight Rye Whiskey. Image courtesy Anchor Distilling. This Rye whiskey from San Francisco’s Anchor Distilling is a rarity, as it is one of the few single malt 100% rye whiskies made in the United States. The nose is spicy and warm with notes of fresh rye bagels, a hint of clove, maple syrup, honey, leather, and pipe tobacco. The taste is spicy with clove, cinnamon, and a hint of nutmeg along with roasted almonds, maple syrup, leather, and pipe tobacco smoke. The finish has lingering spices, touches of maple syrup and honey, and fades away gently. (December, 2016)
