Douglas Laing XOP Invergordon 50. Image courtesy Douglas Laing & Co. Old single grain Scotch whiskies are relatively hard to find, and this one from Douglas Laing & Co.’s Xtra Old Particular series is one of the oldest around. The nose is oaky – as might be expected – but with notes of honey, butterscotch, vanilla, and subtle touches of red apples and peaches. The taste is fruity with apple pie and cinnamon, a hint of peach cobbler, oak, figs, and a touch of licorice. The finish is long and smooth. (June, 2016)
