The Glenrothes 1969 Extraordinary Cask. Image courtesy The Glenrothes. This single malt was filled into a cask on July 10, 1969…just a few days before the Apollo 11 mission that put men on the moon for the first time. Only 133 bottles were released.

While the moon is dusty and airless, this whisky remains vibrant, fresh, and fruity with notes of orange peel, ginger, clove, cardamom, vanilla, honey, figs, and brown sugar. The taste is just as fresh and fruity with a spicy kick of white pepper, clove, and cardamon along with orange peel, and touches of oak and vanilla underneath. The finish is amazingly long, spicy, and fruity with good consistence and balance. Yes, the price is astronomical, but you’ll be over the moon if you get a chance to try it. (September, 2015)
